As a young girl I loved playing with my Legos – who didn’t? It was something about taking a pile of colored snap-on blocks, building something with it, and then imagining an entire world around that creation. It never occurred to me that the majority of the things I created where, well, male-centric. When we read this article about Lego’s Friends line for girls, we agreed that the meter gravitated pretty high toward the girly category. But hey, anything 1.0 is often a learning curve. In this instance you can have input of the 2.0 version. Take Limor Fried, founder of Adafruits. She has entered her version of a Legos set to inspire young girls and boys to become engineers. Its called Ladyada’s Workshop, and she submitted the concept to Lego Cuusoo, a site where Lego set concepts are shared. If a concept receives 10,000 votes, Lego will review and possibly make it into a real set that can be purchased. And you can even share in the financial rewards. Based on her real life business of running a workshop, Ladyada’s Workshop comes complete with laser cutter, a solder station, a cool nerdynista with fashionably pink hair, and her trusty cat companion. We encourage you to vote for Ladyada’s Workshop while working up plans of your own. Want to work with a team? Find other Nerdynista’s to work with here!
